There is a certain oder in the (complete) names of techniques. The first part refers to the stance, followed by the direction and the technique itself:
a1) Right or left leg a2) right or left hand/foot that performs the technique
b) The part of the body that is used to attack or defend
c) The part of the body that is attacked
d) The direction of the technique
e) The form of the technique.
This is f.i. the translation of a right hand knife hand strike to the neck in a tall stance with the right foot in the front:
OREUN | AP KOOBI SEOGI | OREUN | HAN | SONNAL | MOK | AN | CHIGI |
(a1) | (stand) | (a2) | (b) | (c) | (d) | (e)
(the word Han = ‘one’, indicate that only one hand is open (knife hand), the other is in the shape of a fist, close to the waist.
Not always the elements of a till e will be used. This is the case when there are no varieties in techniques and a technique is unique. The short version will be indicated by underlining. |
